Style
Style is:
- the way a writer uses language
- how the writer writes
- the choice of words (vocabulary)
- the use of figurative language
- the way sentences and paragraphs are structured or arranged.
Literary style is like the clothes that a text wears. The basic information in a text is the body and how that information is presented is like the clothing. Style is how we 'dress' our information. Just as you can dress in several different styles, a text can be presented in different styles.
Standard Australian English | "I will not go in there." |
Informal using slang | "There ain't no way you'll catch me in that place!" |
Formal | "You will not convince me to enter that establishment." |
Verbose | "I am afraid it would be a futile exercise to attempt to persuade me to enter into that institution". |
Concise | "I won't go in." |
