Evaluating a position
Read the transcript of a speech at the link below. (Your teacher may provide another speech.)
Participate in a class or group discussion:
- Identify the thesis statement.
- Identify the key information/arguments and the supporting evidence.
- Identify the speaker's position on the topic and the words used which reveal this.
- Identify other positions/points of view on the topic.
- Express and justify your position on the topic.
Remember to use appropriate evaluative language and be prepared to justify your evaluations during the discussion. You may like to use the brainstorming worksheet at the link below to record notes during your discussion.
